Buffalo to Yosemite [I think he means Yellowstone]
The cabins we rented in Buffalo had a nice touch. The owners, a retired couple from Dan Diego sold their house and bought it a few years back. An impulse decision. They may be ready to sell the cabins by now, not a unique story.
By 8:30 we were ready. 80 miles away is the town (?) of Tensleep, population 30, with a great cowboy breakfast saloon. The poster sign at the door clearly tells: “Brush the shit off your boots before coming in”, that ought to describe the place. The place, a family run affair. To the 14 year old waitress I said, “what does the labor commissioner say about child labor laws in this state?”
“Oh, I get that all the time, I’m 22, and i am just visiting from Vermont where I study aeronautical engineering”. Wow! That will teach to keep my mouth shut!
Tennsleep is in the middle of the Big Horn Mountains. Theses are 9,600 feet high, windy and pretty. I noticed: for every 1000 feet you climb, the temperature drops. 4°. I confirmed this on the way down. Interesting.
On the other side of the Big Horn Mountains is Yellowstone Nat. Park. Okay, if the animals we saw: buffalo, elk, deer, ducks and people. The place is pretty. The highway sign saying don’t do this, don’t do that, were abundant. Lucky that on this day the traffic was minimal and we made reasonable progress.
In the over all Yellowstone gets a grade of C+. For all the hoopla… bleh! You need several days and the temperament of a naturalist to appreciate this thing.
We stayed at the North Entrance to the park. Not five minutes from it. Hooray!
Dinner… bed… I’m done
