My ride to Gardnerville started about 6:30 AM, between the 6 AM group and the 7 AM group. At the Orchard in Tracy I was suprised to find that the 6 AM group had just placed their order but not yet been served. Hmmm, I didn’t think I was going that fast.
After a hearty breakfast it was out to the parking lot just in time for the 7 AM group to start straggling in. I said hi, then good-bye, and took off on my own. My planned route is Ebbits and Monitor Pass to 395 then up to Gardnerville.
These pictures were taken at a rest stop just below Ebbits pass. The interesting thing (to me, anyway) was the patches of snow on the various peaks surrounding the pass. I don’t remember that much snow in past years. Perhaps it is the result of the very wet spring that seemed to last forever.
At the top of monitor pass there is a dirt road that needed taking. I didn’t go very far, but suspect that it would wind its way down the pass to 395 on the Nevada side of the border. That would be the road going off to the right in the first picture. Were I not alone I might have taken it to see if that is the case. The second picture is the road going back to highway 89.
I stopped one more time on the way to the Village Motel, this time just before highway 89 winds its way down to 395. As you can see from the pictures, it was a beautiful day (and not too hot, either).
There were several SMBC members at the Village Motel by the time I arrived even though I was one of the first to leave the restaurant in Tracy. I suspect they took a more direct route. Others didn’t show up until quite later. It must be noted for the record that Gerry G made it before dinner started! Alas, Fred, Irma, and Carl did not make it at all. Fred had a mishap with his Norton and headed back to the Bay Area two up with Irma, Carl riding support, to pick up his truck to fetch the bike. I hope all is well.
One more item of note: The first image below is of a small, lowered 650 dual sport belonging to Tom Jordan a long time SMBC member (before he moved away from the bay area) and riding buddy of Dave Gallegos. Tom is forced to take the small dual sport on long rides because many years ago he sold his wing to Dave. But does Dave ride the wing (or any other bike) this year? No! He and Bunny drove up with Helmut and Tina in Helmuts M5 bimmer.

Sunday Morning
Sunday morning I had breakfast (thanks Rob!) with the group that went to Kirkwood. Alas, Dan had to make do with French Toast as Tom got the last hot cakes in the house. After breakfast the riders leapfrogged each other on the way home.
