10 for breakfast in San Geronimo (Two Bird Cafe) and thereafter an attempt at the Fairfax-Bolinas Road which, alas, was closed about ten miles ‘up’. Back to SanGeronimo and a turn north for back road into Olima with a visit to the Golden Gate National Seashore HQ (read ‘bathroom break’). Thereafter it was a romp up Hwy #1 for Tomales and a turn to Dillon Beach for a bench break and an agreement to dine in Occidental. We back-tracked to Franklin School/Valley Ford Rd but turned-off before Valley Ford on Witaker Bluff for Middle Road THEN into Valley Ford. We jogged over to the Bodega Hwy to connect to Joy Rd and on into Occidental. Neither Marcus nor Alberto were familiar with the Howard Cafe, a one time narrow gauge railroad station, one found eons ago with Dick Zunkel in a rainstorm. Great fare was had. And, since we were now very close to Brent Hansen’s Motoworks, why not visit? Great idea! I had only minor problems getting us there but boy, lots of changes. Brent and Sue tore-down the old stable and built a new building for Sue’s gardening endeavors, but not to be outdone, they were/are currently raising a greenhouse.
We admired some motorcycles, an R12 in original paint and Brent’s personal motor an R51/3 which he’s tastefully repainted. Marcus was interested in the 1910-13 Shaw that Brent’s rebuilding for a coast to coast ride, where he had to make a new con rod and fashion a new breaker point mechanism. The current puzzle is too much compression so Brent’s incrementally shaving the new custom built piston to lower it. He’s also acquired an old Chevy pick-up which was very interesting.
