Note to all members: next November when the schedule for the following year is discussed make sure that one of the items to check is that there are no rides to the North Bay on Bay-to-Breakers Sunday.
The group left Burlingame on time. Some were slow to get onto the freeway and didn’t see where the leader led. The lucky slowpokes took 19th Ave and had no problem getting to and across the Golden Gate bridge. The unlucky few following the leader took 101 to Van Ness with the idea of catching Franklin to Lombard to get to the bridge. Bay-to-Breakers? It doesn’t start until 8 AM…
Maybe in previous years it started at 8 AM. This year it started at 7. There is no way to get across Franklin: barricades are up all along Fell street. I gave up and got back on the freeway, taking 101 and 280 to 19th ave to get to the bridge. That put me at the restaurant about 30 minutes late. The others? They took the Embarcadero, bike paths, and other short cuts to eventually get to the bridge. They arrived at the restaurant about an hour late.
After breakfast Dan led those who weren’t in a hurry to go home on a short ride. Some of us then stopped at his house before heading home. Having had enough of Bay-to-Breakers I decided that come home via the Richmond and Bay bridges, bypassing the western half of SF. I think it was a wise decision.
