I’d heard that Highland was closed due to a slide and thought I’d see for myself. After all, “Road Closed” signs don’t always apply to motorcycles. With that in mind I blew past the two instances of “Road Closed” signs blocking the road on the way to the slide. How about that… they weren’t kidding. The side of the moutain above the road just east of the place they repaired the last time the road was closed came down. It looks like it took away a good chunk of road, trees, bushes, etc., and covered a 50 yard part of the road that remained in a layer of mud. At least it’s mostly dry mud, now.
If the bike were 200 pounds lighter I might have tried taking it on the narrow path between the two sections of road, but the cost of an error was too high for me to attempt that with the mule. It’s a long way down if I slipped. Most the bicyclists out for a ride were carying their bikes across the path, too.
Road closed
Path to other side
Good question
