The weather report called for showers. Four went to breakfast at Bill’s in San Jose; Dick, Jerry, and Tom in quadricycles, me on my GS. After breakfast I went up 9 to 35 to Alice’s.. No rain, but last nights winds knocked some trees over. 9 was closed west of 35. 35 was partially blocked around Old La Honda road.
Lonely bike
No, I was not the only one at Alice’s on a bike. It just looks that way. The milky look to the parking lot roadway is the remains of a 5 minute hail storm. Showers, the weatherman said. Right.
Other bikes had sense enough to get out of the hail
When the hail started coming down other riders moved their bikes under cover. I figured the bike could take the bouncing hail better than I could so let it sit. I do wish I’d had my camera when the hail was doing its thing, though.
Cold saddle, gloves on cylinder
After the hail came heavy rain for another 5-10 minutes.
When it finally turned to the promised showers I grabbed my camera to
take these pics. Note my helmet. The visor was closed, keeping the
inside dry. Note the cylinder head. The opening to my waterproof glove
was pointed down just enough to keep the insides dry. The one on the
right cylinder was dry, too.
