I rode down to the Quail last weekend and took some pictures. There were several featured bike marques, to make up for the lack of Quailing in 2020 and 2021.
The BMW /5 was a featured marque because of the 50th Anniversary, but oddly, there weren’t many entered at the show. Scottie Sharpe had a few nice vintage bikes in his display.
I bought Dick Zunkel’s Harley XR1200 last year, so I was interested in them; they were a featured bike also because of their 50th Anniversary, emphasizing the XR 750CC and 1000CC race bikes.
My buddy works for Oakland HD, and he and his boss rode their XR’s to the show. They told me that the founder of Motion Pro had 6-7 of his Harley collection there.
The Show Winner was a 1951 Vincent Rapide that builder Maz Hazan had completely transformed; pretty much the only recognizable Vincent piece was the motor.
The show was well-attended, and the Carmel weather was beautiful, warm sun and cool breeze. But when I rode back on Sunday up Hwy 1, it was freezing; wet fog misting and high winds from Davenport to Half Moon Bay and Hwy 280.
Good times.
